Long Awaited Event: Two Families Receive keys to homes at Dedication
One of the longest build times in Habitat history came to a successful conclusion on June 11, 2017 when the Richardson and Abel families received keys to their new homes. The home dedication, attended by family, friends, volunteers and Habitat Board members, was full of big smiles and relief that the homes promised in 2014 were now in the hands of the proud new owners.
In December 2013, the Habitat Board evaluated the potential use of a large property in Copperopolis. With a change in State law allowing two homes on a property, the Board moved forward. During 2014, families were interviewed and two families were selected. With permits in hand, construction started in 2015. Unanticipated delays slowed Habitat efforts, but on a wonderful, bright sky Sunday, the Richardson and Abel families received the key to their very first home. We welcome the new owners to the Habitat family and wish them happiness in their new adventure of home ownership.

A great big THANKS to the Miwuk Indians for their donation!

Habitat is always looking for new ways to raise funds to further our home builds, health & safety improvements, ABWK and NRI.

If you would like to sponsor an event (new car raffle, Cinco de Mayo event, Irish Day party in Murphys, etc.) we are excited to hear from you about how you can HOST AN EVENT!
With the help of your business, civic organization, church, social club we can build more and do more!

Habitat helps individuals, families, partners become homebuyers,
homeowners, and puts the 'neighbor' in 'neighborhood'.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS who care about helping people change their lives for the better. We are looking for people who have a desire to change just one life...because that will change the world!

If you want to know how you can help, check out our volunteer and committee pages. Then use the volunteer form to join us.

Your commitment of a least one day a month working on a home build, working in the ReStore, helping remodel a home for a physcially challenged person, or just painting a home during our ABWK projects will increase Habitats' ability to make a difference in the communities we serve.

AND, WHO KNOWS...it may make a differnce in your life!

If you prefer to make a monetary donation online on Tuesday, November 29th, check out our donation page.

WOMEN DAY BUILD!

Each May, Habitat for Humanity and Lowes sponsor a week long Women Build!  Here in Calaveras County, we set aside at least one day in May for interested women to get together and help a friend, neighbor, or even a complete stranger, to repair their home. NO EXPERIENCE is necessary!  Lowes will help train any interested women in the skills necessary to experience this great event! Women Build also occurs for every home we build so, if you have an interest in helping, contact Habitat for Humanity Calaveras at 209-754-5331.

Would your business, church, club or organization
like to hold a fund raising event for Habitat?  Do you have Scouts that need merit badges? Can you cook, wash cars, organize a golf tournament or crab feed or chili cook-off?
We are always looking for great people and companies to team with to provide exciting and fun times to support Habitat Calaveras and our mission.

Your event can assist us raising the funds needed to continue helping families and veterans in Calaveras County. Activities can include raffles, motorcycle or car rallies, dinners, dances, raft trips, ski days, or any other fun filled day. And your company can get tax benefits for helping a non-profit such as Habitat.

If you are interested, please call 209-754-5331.

Are you a Bridge Player?
If you play, join us for our annual Bridge Tournament on October 28, 2017 in Murphys, California.

Contract bridge players, from all over California, hit the tables every fall at the Lion’s Hut in Murphys to participate in a ACBL sanctioned tournament run by local Bridgemaster Duane Oneto.  Master points were awarded during this event.
The tournament is always a lot of fun with flights for bridge players of all abilities. The group welcomes “Party” bridge players as well as the serious contract bridge players.
Winners in three flights are awarded gifts, (often a bottle of Calaveras “Finest” wines donated by award winning wineries). The event is preceded by a continental breakfast of juices and coffee donated by Treat’s, plus donuts and pastries donated by Big Trees, Mar-Val, and Star Bakery. A delicious gourmet luncheon is provided courtesy of Habitat volunteers and local markets and restaurants.

The $30 entry fee helps enable Habitat-Calaveras to provide housing services for deserving families in our county. We would like to thank all players, businesses and event staff for their donation of time, money, goods and services. In 2016 the tournament raised over $1200!

We are very grateful to Noel Helmbrecht for organizing this fundraiser annually since 2003. Noel, your special talent is always appreciated. Thanks for many years of service! With Lucy Thein and company helping with food and festiities, participants are assured a great time!

Contact us at 209-754-5331 if your group would be interested in attending next year.  Come join us in Murphys for a good time, and for a great cause. Would you like to help organize the Habitat annual Bridge Tourney?  Give us a call at 209-754-5331 for more info.
