Affordable Housing Development Milestones: PG&E Partners with Habitat Calaveras at Eureka Oaks

By Published On: June 12, 2026

On June 2nd, the dirt was flying and community spirit was at an all-time high at our Eureka Oaks development in Angels Camp! We are incredibly proud to celebrate a massive milestone made possible by Pacific Gas and Electric Company and Habitat for Humanity California, who joined forces to award Habitat For Humanity Calaveras a $50,000 Connecting Hometowns grant.

We put those funds straight to work on-site, building the foundational infrastructure for a brand-new, sustainable neighborhood community garden. This shared green space is being built for the 107 future families who will call Eureka Oaks home. As the single largest affordable housing development in California Habitat history, Eureka Oaks is changing our regional landscape—and this garden will be its social and agricultural heartbeat.

A True Calaveras County Community Collaboration

A project of this scale takes a village, and we were honored to welcome key local leaders who stepped up to celebrate the power of this public-private partnership:

1. Mike Chimente, City of Angels Camp Vice Mayor

Vice Mayor Chimente highlighted the profound, long-term impact that true homeownership brings to a municipality:

When you think about a home, a home is an anchor. You’re not just renting a home, but you’re invested in a home. That place is where you’re going to live, you’re going to raise your family… their kids are going to attend our schools, the folks are going to shop in our local businesses, and its just going to enhance what we have currently.

2. Amanda Folendorf, Calaveras County District 4 Supervisor Supervisor

Supervisor Folendorf spoke about how critical housing infrastructure is to the broader health of the county, noting how far this flagship affordable housing development has come over the last decade:

What was once a pie-in-the-sky dream, you guys are actually doing it today. You’re building and participating, and that has come a long way in the last decade.

3. Sarah Rasheed and Tracy Mello, PG&E Representatives

Our partners at PG&E stood out as exceptional community collaborators, bringing corporate philanthropy and grassroots volunteer power directly into the dirt. Tracy Mello shared how inspiring it was to see people from different corporations, ages, and walks of life come together to build the vital interdependence that healthy communities need. Working side-by-side with our future homeowners, Sarah Rasheed highlighted the incredible momentum on-site, noting how remarkable it was to see a blank slate transform into a structured garden space in just a few hours. For the PG&E team, this build day went far beyond a financial contribution—it was a hands-on investment in a sustainable neighborhood asset where future families will work, grow, and connect for generations.

How Habitat Strengthens Calaveras

For those new to our mission, Habitat for Humanity does not give away free homes. Our framework is built on a true partnership with local, income-qualified families who are ready for the stability of homeownership.

To set our partners up for lifetime success, future homeowners complete comprehensive financial literacy classes to master long-term budgeting and mortgage management. Additionally, they invest hundreds of “partnership hours” working side-by-side with volunteers to build their own homes and neighborhood assets. This rigorous process ensures that every affordable housing development we build creates deep-rooted pride of ownership, long-term financial stability, and a permanent civic investment in the region.

By creating stable, affordable neighborhoods, we are tackling the regional housing crisis head-on. When working families can afford to live where they work, it reduces commuter fatigue, lowers employee turnover for local businesses, and builds an interconnected community where families can grow and thrive for generations.

Thank you, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, for being the vital catalyst behind this space. No single organization can solve the housing crisis alone. We rely heavily on the support of regional organizations, corporate sponsors, and foundational grants to keep our building momentum moving forward.
