Habitat for Humanity Calaveras Honors Veterans and First Responders on 9/11 Day of Service

On September 11, 2024, Habitat for Humanity Calaveras held its annual 9/11 Day of Service event at the Ebbetts Pass Veterans Memorial in Murphys, California, honoring the courage and commitment of veterans and first responders across Calaveras County. This special day, attended by community members and leaders, served as a heartfelt tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to protecting our nation and communities, as well as a remembrance of the unity that arose from tragedy.

The event began with a powerful performance by Doctor Raphael Pazo on the bagpipes, setting a solemn tone as the Murphys Boy Scout Troop 343 presented the colors. Veteran and Chaplain Brian Stutzman spoke on the importance of honoring the memory of those we lost on 9/11, highlighting how these ceremonies not only commemorate the fallen but celebrate the resilience that binds us together.

Representatives from Calaveras County Veterans’ Services, Mark Twain Medical Center, the American Red Cross, and numerous local service organizations also attended, underscoring the strong network of support for veterans and first responders throughout the county.

Habitat for Humanity Calaveras, which became a Veterans Build Affiliate just over two years ago, has strengthened its mission to serve the local veteran community through building homes, employment, volunteer engagement, and educational initiatives tailored specifically for veterans. As one of California’s counties with the highest per capita veteran population, Calaveras is proud to stand behind these brave men and women who have selflessly served.

As we reflect on this day, we extend our gratitude to all who participated and supported this important gathering, recognizing the commitment of those who serve. We invite you to join us next year on September 11, 2025, as we continue this meaningful tradition.
