Habitat for Humanity Calaveras Breaks Ground on Eureka Oaks Project

On September 23, 2024, Habitat for Humanity Calaveras celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Eureka Oaks project, a pivotal step forward in creating safe and affordable homes for local families. The event, emceed by Board Director Eva Condron-Wells, welcomed an audience of supporters, volunteers, and community leaders to honor the collaboration and dedication that have brought this ambitious project to life.

Gregg Smith, Board President, began the ceremony with a moving story of a family whose lives were transformed by the stability of a Habitat home. Executive Director Morgan Gace recognized the many supporters who helped bring this vision to fruition and emphasized Eureka Oaks as a vital symbol of hope for the Calaveras community.

Community leaders shared heartfelt reflections on the project’s impact, with Calaveras County District 4 Supervisor Amanda Folendorf and City of Angels Camp City Council Member Alvin Broglio both expressing gratitude for the positive ripple effect Eureka Oaks will bring to the area. Former Board President Dr. Reverend Bonnie Hollinger added a spiritual dimension, delivering a touching blessing over the project and the families who will soon find homes there.

A significant highlight of the ceremony was a generous $50,000 donation presented by Habitat supporter Julie Savelle, underscoring the community’s steadfast commitment to Habitat’s mission.

As we celebrate this monumental beginning, we eagerly anticipate welcoming the first families into their new homes by the end of 2025. This project represents the culmination of countless hours of work, many hands, and caring hearts, and we extend our deepest gratitude to all who have contributed to this moment. Together, we’re building not only homes but a foundation for a thriving Calaveras community.
