Honoring a Legacy Through Home

At Habitat for Humanity Calaveras, we believe that memories and love can take tangible form — building stronger communities and honoring those who have shaped our lives.

Recently, a special gift was made in memory of Jean K. Lingaas. Jean was a beloved teacher’s aide, a devoted mother to four children, and a lifelong advocate for education and family. She passed away in March 2024, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and care.

Jean’s daughter, Louise Simson, Superintendent of the Mark Twain Union Elementary School District, shared a glimpse into her family’s story: “My mom and dad saved every penny they could in 1950 to buy a home, and they lived there for more than six decades. The value of a home is safety, security, community, and tradition. I am pleased to pay that forward through Habitat for Humanity Calaveras.”

Gifts like these remind us that a home is so much more than walls and a roof — it is where memories are made, traditions are carried on, and communities are strengthened. We are honored to celebrate Jean’s legacy by helping more families achieve the dream of homeownership in Calaveras County.

Thank you to the Lingaas family for entrusting Habitat Calaveras with this meaningful tribute.
