Revitalizing Roots: Neighborhood Revitalization Projects Transform Calaveras County Communities
Over the past year, Habitat for Humanity Calaveras, with generous financial support from the Calaveras Community Foundation, has completed five impactful Neighborhood Revitalization projects across Calaveras County. These efforts—ranging from structural repairs to community beautification—have restored public spaces, strengthened local pride, and reinforced a sense of shared responsibility in rural areas where investment is often limited.
Mokelumne Hill Library | Mokelumne Hill
November 4–6, 2024
Skilled volunteers replaced deck boards, secured handrails, and sealed the deck at this historic location. This deck work ensured safety and longevity, created a safe place for future Storytimes, while also preserving the site as a vital community resource.
Mountain Ranch Park | Mountain Ranch
January 6–7, 2025
Volunteers repainted the baseball field’s dugouts and backstop, renewing the look and feel of a well-loved recreational space used by local youth and families.
Rail Road Flat Community Center | Rail Road Flat
March 4, 2025
Restoration of the outdoor bathroom facilities enhanced the functionality and appearance of this key community gathering location, supporting dignity and comfort for all who use it.
Calaveras County Airport | San Andreas
April 29, 2025
Coinciding with National Volunteer Week, this large-scale project included interior lobby work, restoring picnic tables and awning, landscaping the cactus garden, and general beautification projects just before the annual Airport Day. This project also celebrated volunteers and gave Habitat the space to recognize key volunteers. The transformation created a more welcoming and well-maintained public space.
Calaveras County Museum | San Andreas

Volunteers painted window jambs and exterior doors, preserving a beloved cultural institution and enhancing its appearance for the community and visitors alike.
The Power of Community in Action
Each of these projects demonstrates a simple truth: when communities invest time and energy in the places they share, the return is far greater than the sum of the work completed. Beyond fresh paint or structural repairs, these efforts foster local connection, instill pride, and build a legacy of care and collaboration.
These achievements, made possible by the Calaveras Community Foundation and driven by dedicated local volunteers, are a lasting testament to the impact of collective action and service.
As one participant reflected:

What’s Next in Neighborhood Revitalization
Habitat for Humanity Calaveras is continuing its Neighborhood Revitalization initiative with several upcoming projects. We invite community members to get involved and help continue this vital work:
Rail Road Flat Community Center – Upcountry Littles Preschool Co-op
Location: 298 N. Railroad Flat Rd, Railroad Flat, CA
Dates:
- Demolition Day: June 26, 2025
- Installation Days: July 9–10, 2025
- Wrap-Up Days: July 23–24, 2025
Volunteers will assist in removing old flooring and materials, installing new flooring, and completing remaining projects such as painting doors.
Mark Twain Elementary School District
Dates: Ongoing in July and August
This project includes painting, remodeling, and updating staff areas. Please contact the Habitat Calaveras office for specific work dates and further details.
Jenny Lind Veteran Memorial District
Date: September 11, 2025 | 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
Volunteers will help restore trails, renovate picnic areas, paint the scenic overlook cross and meditation space, create a mural to cover playground graffiti, and install playground handrails and structural improvements.
Angels Camp Museum
Dates: Ongoing
Tasks include exterior painting of the Pole Barn and general beautification projects around the museum grounds. Look for updates in upcoming newsletters or contact our office directly.
