Remembering Eric Mackintosh

Hands holding heart with text "Remembering Eric Mackintosh"

Habitat for Humanity Calaveras says goodbye to Eric Mackintosh, one of our most ardent and loyal supporters, who passed away in April.  Year-after-year, Eric has offered his time, creative ideas, and financial support to Habitat Calaveras at a time when we needed it most.

Eric’s support was particularly vital to the success of our annual Hoedown for Humanity fundraisers.  In the past seven years, he has placed the winning bid on 20 Hoedown silent auction prizes with a total value approaching $5,000.

Eric and his wife Pat did more than just bid on Hoedown auction prizes.  In 2021, they graciously offered a stay at their cabin in Twain Harte as a Hoedown auction prize, generating an impressive winning bid amount.  As a 2022 Hoedown auction prize, Eric skillfully crafted an oak wood wine/beverage cooler made from repurposed wine barrel staves.  This beautiful piece of handmade furniture also generated a significant Hoedown auction winning bid.

One Hoedown auction prize was of particular importance to Eric.  In each of the last 5 years, Eric was the high bidder on Cal-Waste’s generous donation of a year’s free garbage and recycle pick up service.  It did not matter to him that his winning bids were well above the retail cost of Cal Waste’s service – he simply refused to lose.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Pat, their children Shannon and Sean, and the rest of their family.  We will miss his big voice, his big laugh, and his big heart.
